It’s probably best I start by introducing myself, my name’s Choleigh and I am currently a Senior Consultant at Monarch Engineering.

My journey started back in November 2016; I was told by a family friend “you could sell dreams, why don’t you look into recruitment”, so I did.

I had applied online and was asked for an interview, the interview process was VERY SCARY and all I could hear was lots of noise from the sales floor. I asked what was going on and was told that the team were doing an Olympic Sales Day and honestly that’s what sold the opportunity to me. I wanted to go somewhere where I could make a lot of money and where it would be fun.

I joined Monarch as part of the IT Division and the first 3 months was a rollercoaster which mainly went down! I worked on every patch to see which one suited me. I worked really hard - my first week I hit over 4 hours on the phone a day, 140+ call outs, I was smashing the phones but with no results.

March 2017 came and the business recognised my hard work, there was a new team set up, Monarch Engineering and I was asked to be the first recruit. Within the first 3 weeks, I had made my first placement and started really enjoying speaking to engineers. I became very passionate about Engineering and Manufacturing; I wanted to know everything about new machinery and what changes were happening. My patch was decided from day 1 – Choleigh McGuire specialising in Manufacturing and Production, I started making sure I knew everything that was going on in the Midlands area and who was recruiting for what.

After 5 months, I did start to re-think recruitment. I had 3 offers turned down and just felt like I couldn’t do it. I was going to go back into teaching, less money but I knew it was a ‘safe’ job and I wouldn’t have to fear rejection or people letting me down. I was honest with my director (which is rare in recruitment) but I felt I was able to, Kirsty told me to give it time and not rush into the decision. I had till June to start applying for my PGCE, so I stayed and something just changed in me.

I worked out how much I could make in recruitment vs being a teacher, I was 23 and I had so many dreams and things I wanted to do and I just knew going with the ‘safe’ option wasn’t going to work. It was time to get that passion and that fire back. July came and I decided I was going to stay, thank you Monarch for letting me - I think any other company would have thrown me out!

August 2017, I made 4 placements putting me on my first champagne club. I finally had a taste of how it felt to be successful in recruitment and made sure from that point on, I was going to do whatever I could to make it happen.

January 2018 – I was awarded Trainee Consultant of the Year! An award that hadn’t been given for the past 3- 4 years, I honestly thought I was amazing and the truth is, it’s those little achievements which you make and the recognition which is given to you that makes it all worth it.

February 2018 – I was promoted from Trainee to Recruitment Consultant, nearly took me a year and gosh it was hard! But I felt like I had finally got it and understood recruitment. By this time I had started picking up huge clients for the whole team and making sure that we delivered to each one, it was like a snowball effect everything just happened all at once.  I got really passionate about each client I worked with, setting up weekly reviews with them to ensure Monarch was doing the best they could and equally so the client knew the market and the barriers which we were facing.

August 2018, I hit my next promotion in just 6 months and was promoted to Senior Consultant. At this moment I started to believe in myself and knew Recruitment was the better decision. I am now earning more than a teacher and ticking off my personal goals (which are very important).

November 2018, it’s been two years; I’ve been promoted twice this year and am very close to hitting my next promotion, I am also 25 % over my yearly target. It’s been an amazing year for me, which goes to show anything can happen. I can’t say that it has been easy because it hasn’t, I have worked long hours and been exhausted, cried, moaned and felt like giving up 100 times over, but if I gave up I wouldn’t be where I am now. I’m happy with my life, I love the client side of the role and equally getting to know candidates, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
